1. Position Purpose

The IT Instructor will be responsible for managing and conducting the IT/computer classes established at Central Prison Karachi. The position aims to provide inmates with practical computer literacy and IT skills that can contribute to their education, personal development, employability, and rehabilitation.

The instructor will be responsible not only for classroom teaching but also for maintaining a structured learning environment, monitoring students' progress, managing the available IT equipment, and ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with prison security protocols and organizational requirements.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Training

  • Conduct regular computer and IT classes for inmates according to the approved class schedule.

  • Deliver practical and theory-based training using the available computer laboratory facilities.

  • Develop structured lesson plans, course outlines, exercises, and learning materials.

  • Provide basic to intermediate-level training in areas such as:

    • Computer fundamentals and digital literacy

    • Windows/operating system basics

    • File and folder management

    • Microsoft Word

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Microsoft PowerPoint

    • Typing and documentation skills

    • Basic hardware and software concepts

    • Other relevant IT skills approved by the organization

  • Conduct practical exercises to ensure that participants develop hands-on computer skills.

  • Adapt teaching methods according to the different educational and technical skill levels of participants.

B. Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Maintain attendance records for all enrolled participants.

  • Conduct periodic assessments, practical exercises, assignments, and tests.

  • Maintain individual or batch-wise records of participants' progress.

  • Identify participants requiring additional support and provide appropriate guidance.

  • Prepare completion and performance records for participants at the end of each training cycle.

C. IT Lab Management

  • Ensure computers and other IT equipment in the classroom are operational and properly maintained.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of computers, operating systems, applications, printers, and related equipment.

  • Immediately report hardware failures, software issues, or damaged/missing equipment to the designated focal person.

  • Maintain an updated inventory of computers, peripherals, and other IT equipment assigned to the classroom.

  • Ensure that equipment is used only for authorized educational purposes.

  • Coordinate with the organization's IT team for technical issues requiring advanced support.

D. Security & Compliance

Considering that the IT facility is located within Central Prison Karachi, the instructor will be required to strictly comply with all applicable prison security procedures.

The instructor will:

  • Follow all instructions and security protocols issued by the Prison Administration.

  • Ensure that computers and IT equipment are not used for unauthorized activities.

  • Not install any software, application, device, or external storage media without appropriate authorization.

  • Ensure that inmates are not provided unauthorized access to the internet, communication platforms, external networks, or restricted digital resources.

  • Immediately report any suspected misuse of IT equipment or security-related concern.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding inmates, prison operations, organizational information, and any information accessed during the assignment.

E. Reporting & Coordination

  • Coordinate regularly with the designated CWP focal person and relevant prison officials.

  • Submit monthly reports covering:

    • Number of classes conducted

    • Student attendance

    • Topics/modules completed

    • Participant progress

    • Assessments conducted

    • IT equipment status

    • Challenges or operational issues

    • Recommendations, where required

  • Immediately communicate any issue that may interrupt or affect the continuity of IT classes.

  • Support monitoring visits conducted by CWP management or authorized stakeholders.

3. Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another relevant IT discipline from a recognized institution.

  • Relevant professional IT certifications will be considered an advantage.

4. Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in IT training, computer education, technical support, or a similar role.

  • Previous experience as an IT Instructor, Computer Teacher, or Technical Trainer will be preferred.

  • Male candidates will be preferred.

  • Candidates must hold a valid Sindh domicile.

  • Experience working in educational, vocational training, rehabilitation, NGO, or similar institutional environments will be an advantage.

  • Practical experience in troubleshooting computer hardware and software is desirable.

5. Technical Skills

The candidate should have good practical knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Windows operating systems

  • Computer hardware and peripherals

  • Software installation and troubleshooting

  • Basic networking concepts

  • Computer laboratory management

  • Digital literacy and responsible technology use

6. Required Competencies

The successful candidate should:

  • Have strong teaching and communication skills.

  • Be able to explain technical concepts in simple and understandable language.

  • Be patient and comfortable teaching individuals with different educational backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and punctuality.

  • Be able to work independently and manage a computer classroom.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working in a prison environment.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity and respect when working with incarcerated and vulnerable individuals.

  • Have strong record-keeping and reporting skills.

  • Be willing and able to work within the rules and security restrictions of Central Prison Karachi.

7. Duty Station & Working Arrangement

The position will be based on-site at Central Prison Karachi. The selected candidate will be required to conduct classes according to the agreed schedule and comply with the entry, exit, security, and operational procedures of the Prison Administration.

The instructor may also be required to attend coordination meetings, training sessions, or review meetings organized by CWP.

8. Key Performance Indicators

Performance of the IT Instructor may be assessed against:

  • Regularity and punctuality of IT classes

  • Number of classes successfully conducted

  • Participant attendance and course completion

  • Improvement in participants' IT knowledge and practical skills

  • Quality of lesson planning and training delivery

  • Accuracy and timeliness of attendance and progress records

  • Proper utilization and management of IT equipment

  • Timely reporting of technical and operational issues

  • Compliance with prison security requirements

  • Timely submission of monthly progress reports

9. Safeguarding & Confidentiality

The selected candidate will be expected to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, confidentiality, safeguarding, and respect for the dignity and rights of inmates. Any unauthorized disclosure of information, misuse of IT facilities, violation of prison security procedures, or inappropriate conduct may result in disciplinary action.
